About Three Pin

An independent UK guide to charging an EV at home, run on sourced numbers rather than vibes.

Three Pin exists because home EV charging advice in the UK splits into two camps: manufacturer marketing that wants to sell you a box, and government documents that were not written for humans. We sit in the middle. We explain what charging at home costs, which charger is worth the money, how the grants work and what to do when there is no driveway, in plain English, with the arithmetic shown.

How we work

Every statistic, price, grant amount and tariff rate on this site is sourced to a primary document: Ofgem for the price cap, gov.uk for grants and regulations, energy suppliers for tariff rates, manufacturers for hardware specifications. Every figure carries the date we checked it, and every article lists its sources at the foot of the page. When a number moves, as energy prices do every quarter, we re-check and re-stamp it.

Where eligibility is involved (grants, planning permission), we link to the official gov.uk page rather than posing as the authority. Rules change; the official page is the one that is right on the day you read it.
